The Ashbridge family were the first pioneers in the area who migrated from Philadelphia in 1793 and farmed the land. The Ashbridge's Bay Park was subsequently named after this family. In the 1800s, large parcels of land in the region were set aside for local parks: Woodbine & Balmy Beach, Kew Gardens, Scarboro, and Victoria Park became Toronto's playgrounds by the lake, attracting many summer cottagers to the area.

Today, The Beach is one of Toronto's most popular neighbourhoods - conveniently close to Toronto's business district, yet has the charm of a lakeside-resort town. This neighbourhood offers year-round activities; the Kew Gardens is the social center of the neighbourhood which hosts many annual events such as the Arts and Crafts show, Jazz Festival, and the Christmas Tree and Menorah lighting festival. Moreover, on any typical day, The Beach is packed with Torontonians and tourists strolling on the boardwalk, relaxing by the water, exercising along the Martin Goodman Trail or shopping, dining, and enjoying a cup of coffee in the neighbourhood's colourful stores, restaurants and coffee shops. Some of the top restaurants include Sauvignon, Yumei Sushi, Sunset Grill, Brick Street Bread café, and Ed’s Real Scoop for dessert. Have your cup of coffee at the Cafe Florentine or at The Remarkable Bean, and enjoy a pint of beer at Murphy’s Law or at The Stone Lion. This family-oriented neighbourhood is definitely the place to be for kids, adults, and canines.

As of May 2015, the average sales price for all homes in The Beach is $865,620. The region offers a wide variety of housing options: detached houses, semi-detached houses, townhouses, and apartments. The most common housing type is the two storey, three bedroom detached home, with an average price of $1,056,478.
